3 KEYS TO EXTRAORDINARY HEALTH:

“To Be Well, One Must Move Well, Eat Well, and Think Well.” That statement summarizes our entire approach to assisting our patients in restoring their health. Moving well, eating well, and thinking well all have to do with one important concept: ALIGNMENT!

In order for one to truly live at their peak level of health, one must be in alignment physically, biochemically, and spiritually. Physical alignment has to do with the balance, posture, flexibility, and mobility of the human structure. The more aligned our physical bodies, the less pain and discomfort we experience. When we are physically aligned, we also free up more energy that can be utilized by the body for healing and repairing. This means our sleep quality improves, our energy rises, and it becomes easier for us to experience life in a positive manner.

The second level of alignment is called biochemical alignment. Each second you are alive, your body is constantly changing and repairing. Hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions are carefully orchestrated and controlled by the delicate interplay of the numerous hormones of your body. Any time our chemistry becomes unbalanced it can lead to a breakdown of health. All diseases known to science result from basic biochemical imbalances.

The last level of alignment is spiritual in nature. Human beings constantly strive to understand the Universe and our connection to it. Living a spiritual life simply means living a life of meaning and purpose. How we define ourselves, how we feel emotionally, as well as how we view our connection to all of life, determines a large portion of our health.

Nature has built in laws that when followed lead to and produce health. Physical, Biochemical, and Spiritual Alignment are the keys to revealing extraordinary health. Stay tuned for ongoing posts over the next several weeks on these three areas of alignment. For more information email me at docaaronpeters@gmail.com or call my office at 814-371-7211. What Is Happiness?

There is much debate about the subject of happiness. Are some people hardwired for happiness? Is happiness a learned behavior? Or is it some combination of both? There is no shortage of research, books, and opinions out there that discuss each of these viewpoints, yet who is right?

So indeed what is happiness? Is it a feeling? Is it an accomplishment? Is it something we experience by obtaining material things? Is happiness spiritual in nature? Do we need others to be happy? Why can’t we be perpetually happy or make it last? Is happiness nothing more than a few feel good chemicals reacting in our brains? All of these are great questions and to answer them indeed presents a challenging exercise.

What I have observed in many people is that often they want to be happy, they try to be happy, and they do things they think will make them happy, but overall these people experience no more happiness than others do.

Perhaps a big part of the problem is most likely happiness is not something that you can “find” beyond your own self. So all the searching and looking for happiness may lead to some immediate feelings of happiness, but rarely does it result in anything lasting. Searching for happiness may be one of the largest reasons for unhappiness, as we never quite seem to locate it somewhere outside our own being.

Defining happiness is equally difficult. People who are typically considered happy are: hopeful, positive, better balanced, more resilient, and seem to handle life better.   But once again does this mean they are truly happy?

Does money play a role in happiness? I have met enough people in my life to show me that regardless of your abundant financial wealth or lack of it, you can be radiating with happiness or be down right miserable.

So how do we put our fingers on happiness? How do we measure it? How do we quantify it? Label it? How do we even know it when we see it? And most importantly how do we recognize it in our own self?

One of the most important dialogues we will take together is on this subject of happiness. So only for the purpose of our discussion would it be beneficial to operate from some type of definition of happiness.

So try this on: “Happiness is a state of being where we realize everything in our corner of the Universe IS good and we live our life accordingly.” Life IS good indeed! Perhaps we just make it more complicated than it needs to be! I look forward to hearing from you, feel free to leave me a comment. Take care and be well! -Dr Aaron M Peters

Compassion and Love – Part 2

Compassion and love are not mere luxuries.
As the source both of inner and external peace,
they are fundamental to the continued survival of our species.
His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama

In my last post, we discussed how there is a great absence of love, kindness, and compassion in the world. A major reason why is a mental lack of awareness. With too much stress, a lot to do each day, and a perceived lack of time it becomes quite easy to overlook being kind.

A good start is to begin to tune into what your are thinking and feeling right now in this moment. Although we remember the past, and we plan for the future, in fact the only moment we can ever experience is right here, right now.

During the course of a given day, how often do you find yourself absorbed in thought about something that already happened? Or anticipating about something that has not yet occurred?

And how many of our thoughts are really beneficial to us or supportive of a more balanced life? If you were to ask most people, the vast majority of our daily moment to moment thoughts are likely negative in some fashion. We feel badly about the past or anxious about the future. Perhaps we are still angry about a conversation or the way somebody treated us. Maybe we are fearful of what is coming next.

And then don’t forget sometimes life can throw you a curve ball taking you completely off guard. The unfortunate part is not only is our continuous stream of thoughts and feelings predominantly negative, usually they are focused on the same issues every day.

Think about it: How often to you worry about the same problems? How many times daily do you repeat the same things over in your mind. And how many judgements does your internal voice make in your mind. Do you judge others harshly? And likely you reserve the harshest judgements for your own behaviors.

By intently observing our patterns of thought we begin to uncover our tendencies. In a way it is much like a good scientist studying an event – in this case we become observers of our own thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

This can be a challenging process for many as facing ourselves this intimately can cause apprehension. But we can never begin to make any positive improvements if we don’t first see ourselves clearly….and that means the good, the bad, and the ugly….Stay tuned for my next post as we will continue the conversation. Food Inc The Movie

Greetings!

I just finished watching an amazing documentary called Food Inc.  I would absolutely 100% recommend this movie to anyone.  It is a revealing look at how the food industry in our country controls nearly everything that we buy and eat.

It is eye opening, and people need to view this film.  You won’t believe what is really happening in America and how the food system is corrupt and set up to make you unhealthy!  Do yourself and your family a huge favor and get a copy of the film.  Learn how your food is made and more shockingly where it comes from.

It could change the way you view eating and your health for the better.  Take care and be well!  -Dr Aaron M Peters

Compassion and Love – Part 1

‘Compassion and love are not mere luxuries.
As the source both of inner and external peace,
they are fundamental to the continued survival of our species.’

His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama

In today’s world we rush about our days, we fill up our schedules beyond our capacity to handle it, and we create our own self fulfilling prophecy of stress.  We feel overwhelmed, overworked, and we wonder if this is all the better life is going to get.  But there is a way out of this.

Our first step at reclaiming our lives is generating the awareness to realize that what we think, how we feel, what we say, and the actions we perform create the vast majority of our problems as well as provide us with our solutions.  The world is certainly not overrun with compassion, kindness, and love.  In order to change this, each of us must first learn to become  kind, compassionate, and loving toward ourselves foremost.

You think other people are hard on you, I have found nobody is harder on us than we are on ourselves.  Yes, we are at times our own worst enemy.  Our negative self talk, the daily judgements we make, and all the fears and doubts we carry with us.  Now multiply that by 6 Billion people and we see why there are problems in the world.

By being more kind and loving to ourselves we give ourselves permission to lighten up and not take ourselves so seriously.  We then tend not to take the voices in our heads as critically, and we get a little breathing room to re-evaluate our situation.  We can learn to love ourselves as who we are, realize that it is ok to make mistakes, and that we have the inner power to change for the better.

Try being more kind and loving to yourself and watch what happens.  Not only will you feel better, but people will notice and they will respond to you in kind.  As Dr Maxwell Maltz stated, “Always learn to see yourself with kind eyes, then it will be easier to see others that way.”

Next time we will discuss in more detail how to integrate this into our daily activities as well as apply it with our interactions with others.  Until Next time, take care and be well!  -Dr Aaron M Peters

Greetings!

Hello!

Welcome to my new and updated version of my blog. I have always been fascinated by Robert Frost’s poem The Road Not Taken.  To me it symbolizes life quite well: Most people never reach or achieve the things in life they desire most, because they believe they cannot.  They feel limited in their ability to create a life of any sort of lasting meaning and purpose.

But to those few individuals who live their lives with excellence and passion, life becomes their masterpiece.  As Frost concludes: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

This blog is about the road less traveled in life.  And more importantly to humbly provide encouragement, suggestions, and ways to show you how to begin forging your own unique path in life.  A word of caution for the reader: I will never make the claim to have the answers of life or proclaim I have it all figured out.  So take everything I write and test it out for yourself.  Use what is useful to you and discard what is useless.  That is all you can and should do with what is written here.

I will be sharing with you my own experiences, both from my personal as well as my professional life.  My desire is that sharing my own story will help spark a dialogue with all of you, and inspire us to live the life we were meant to live – one filled with health, happiness, prosperity, and the equanimity that comes from a peaceful mind.  The life I call the Road Less Traveled By.

I hope our journey together is fun, productive, and most of all insightful! Until next time, take care and be well! -Dr Aaron M Peters
